The aim of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is to ensure there is consistency in care, learning, and development for all children in the Early Years (0 to 5 years of age) throughout England. This is a very important stage, as it helps your child get ready for school as well as prepare them for their future learning and success.
From when your child is born up until the age of 5, their early years’ experience should be happy, active, exciting, fun, and secure, and support their development, care, and learning needs. The EYFS framework recognises that children need to be able to use concrete experiences to provide the building blocks for their learning.
There are seven areas of learning that are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside.
Bright Bunnies Nursery believes that children learn through first-hand experience, using their five senses to develop an understanding of the world. The desire to learn is natural and it is through playing with real objects and materials that they begin to make sense of their world. With play as our basis, and the individual child at the heart of everything we do, we devise our curriculum plans.
The children’s day is carefully structured and planned but allows plenty of time for free expression and free play. We provide a wide range of learning and discovery opportunities to help the children in our care reach their full potential, whatever their age.
We offer a play-based curriculum, where children can move freely between all areas indoors and outdoors for most of the day. In early childhood education, the richest play and discovery takes place when it is supported by adults who are ready to judge when to join in and when not to, and when to teach a new skill or introduce a new concept. We think that this is done best when children can revisit high-quality play experiences every day, week, month year, refining their skills and developing their understanding, until they become experts in their skills
Children play to make sense of the world around them, and to find meaning in an experience by connecting it to something already known. Through play, children express and expand their understanding of their experiences.
Look at children (or adults) playing, often smiling and laughing. Of course, play may have its frustrations and challenges (Who gets the first turn? Why can’t I make this block building stay up?), but the overall feeling is one of enjoyment, motivation, thrill, and pleasure.
Play and learning are not static. Children play to practice skills, try out possibilities, revise hypotheses and discover new challenges, leading to deeper learning.
Watch children playing, and you will usually see that they become deeply involved, often combining physical, mental, and verbal engagement.
Play allows children to communicate ideas, to understand others through social interaction, paving the way to build deeper understanding and more powerful relationships.
Our Key person system is designed to ensure that we offer, loving, individualised care to children throughout the day. This means that your child will always have one specific person who cares for and plans your child’s development. You will be informed of the name of your Key Person from the beginning of your involvement with the nursery.
Your key person will generally be the person who welcomes you and your child to the nursery and settles them into their daily session. They will also be the main practitioner carrying out the child’s intimate care needs, such as putting to sleep, nappy changing and physical closeness. Any information shared will be mainly done through the key person.
We have a settling in policy to help children and their parents get the best possible start at the nursery, and we have a very effective behaviour policy to help children's development in this area. Building positive, friendly relationships with parents is seen as an integral part of the key person role. Settling in can be a big step for both you and your child and at BeBright Bunnies we believe on building positive relationships to support the settling in process for you and your child by making it a positive safe and secure experience. Your key person will build a special bond with your child and get to know all their likes and dislikes so that they can help them to flourish and develop.
While our inhouse education and play experiences will encourage children to understand how to explore risk and unleash their potential. At the end of the day, our staff members are the ones who make our two nurseries so warm and welcoming, and we trust them to make every day special for our children and families.
We focus on supporting children to use the toilet, wipe their own nose, and dress themselves. Developing independence gives children a sense of self-belief and often encourages them to want to be more independent with lots of other things too.
Sharing and interacting with other children is a key skill to help your child interact with the world around them. We spend time promoting children's social skills, through role modelling, praise and encouragement and imaginative role play.
We encourage our children to make healthy choices and prepare them for lunchtime at school. So they can use a knife and fork, cut their food and open their own packets if they have a packed lunch.
Good communication skills are vital for children starting school who will need to be confident to speak to their teachers and take their first steps in making friends. At school, your child will receive lots of spoken instructions every day. They’ll need to adapt quickly from what they are doing to listen to what their teacher or another member of staff is saying.
We ensure our children have lots of opportunities to develop their fine motor skills. One of the most important elements that enable a child to write are these skills, they refer to the use of small muscles in the fingers, to enable them to hold a pencil and practice writing their own name. At BeBright we bring our books to life, so our children start there school journey with a love for books.
Being able to count up to 10, we spend lots of time practising and encourage them to develop their number sense, this is an awareness of what each number actually represents and not just reciting the numbers in the correct order.
We use a digital platform called FAMLY, for us to collaborate, track your child's progress and communicate with families. Whether its sharing invoices, saving photos, observations, or knowledge, we can message and connect with our families instantly. You can check in on your child's day, see what your child has been eating and track naps and nappy changes.
We can easily document your child’s learning journey with an interactive news feed, observations, assessments, and progress reports. You can easily access the app to contribute to your child’s learning by uploading your own special moments and important information.
